Illustration and cover design. Estación Stockton

This was another of the covers design made the previous year (2011), this is the book Estación Stockton by Francisco Jimenez Sanchez, the history of Estación Stockton is interesting but complex to illustrate, is the story of a failed man looking out of his defeat in the face of life and taking refuge in books, which become the trench from where he watches his life.

Several sketches were made to illustrate the cover of Estación Stockton, at first the idea was closer to the title, which could be as Estación Stockton site, then I looked closer to the star and raise a subjective view from where they would spend their life and his days, we finally got to the final idea, where the protagonist has no face, or has the face of lucidity, I think the other elements need no explanation, the fact is that all about defeat, and illustrate that loss immersed myself in music and songs like ”casi nadie” by Los Caballeros de la Quema.

Estación Stockton is available in bookstores, is a book very well written and easy to read, so can be found these days in the Bogotá Book Fair (# 25Filbo).

Here are some details of the cover illustration and the end cover.

Illustration and portrait. Mario Mendoza

This portrait was commissioned for the cover of issue 87 of the Libros & Letras Magazine, in this case a portrait of writer Mario Mendoza, the technique is as recurrent in the portraits I usually do.

This is the complete portrait and some details of the portrait where you can see some brush strokes and strokes, as well as the full cover  of Libros & Letras Magazine No. 87.

Illustration and design. Grammatical psycho, book

This was another work of illustration and book cover design (I’m late to show some worklast year but due to lack of time), in this case a rather interesting story book, it is Grammatical psycho the author is Jorge Aristizabal Gafaro.
The cover illustration refers to the story that gives name to the book, Grammatical psycho, a story in which a man obsessed with grammar and proper use of it, decides to end little by little with those frequently in everyday life, abusive language. Really a very interesting and worth reading.
Those interested in purchasing the book can contact me, or if you require my services, they can also contact me. For now are some details of the cover illustration and the final piece.

Illustration and design. The dead bodies do not count in that way!

The past year, 2011 I did for the author Mary Daza Orozco and the imprint Libros & Letras, the cover of the book The dead bodies do not count in that way!, A book very hard which tells the story of a group of persons seeking the bodies of their relatives assassinated by any of the many dark forces which sadly living in Colombia.

The idea of the cover was the result of more or less two days of thinking and sketching, itrefers to one of the many passages of history in which family members searching for their loved ones in the river, waiting to fall bodies that murderers tend to throw water on the cover the dead are represented by the drops of blood falling to the river, amid the flowers that are about the only way to dismiss the dead.

This is the cover illustration and cover over.

In this link you can read an interview with the author, where it has details of the story.

Illustration anniversary Libros & Letras

Since 2004 I have worked with the Libros & Letras Foundation, during this time I have made many of the illustrations on the cover of their cultural magazine. In September of 2011 Libros & Letras celebrated ten years of his cultural project and commissioned me to do the cover of the anniversary edition. The idea of the illustration mixes some elements that have to do with literature, but also with children, I tried to vary a bit looking for my color palette come up with something more contemporary and lively.

This is the result of Libros & Letras illustration Anniversary.

Illustration and design. Deborah Kruel

DeborahKruel is a Ramon Illan  Bacca’s  book, is a spy story that takes place in the Colombian Caribbean, she is a Nazi spy who is little information and some who are woven many mysteries and intrigues of espionage and counter espionage.

I was commissioned to do the cover illustration and book cover design and the result wasa direct image, with some tropical color where the enigmatic woman is lying on a German bomber, named vehicle at the beginning of the story.

Illustration Antígona y Creonte, Rebeldía y Estado en Colombia.

Another illustration and design work I did in May was that the book Antígona y Creonte, Rebeldía y Estado en Colombia,.author Roland Anrup. The book is a brief drive, and crude depth study on violence in Colombia, and sadly some incredible passages, killing, indifference and oblivion.

The cover has many elements, above a messianic figure, walking on water, an element symbolizing tyranny and replacing his head, his legs are built by other elements that represent the anonymity of many victims, under the water is part of the people displaced with the mouth cells, prisoners of their enforced silence, around these and the background is texture of newsprint, mixed with an evocation of a frieze, with reference to Greek mythology but with some pre-Columbian elements, which I interested symbolize the antiquity of violence in our country.

The book Antígona y Creonte, Rebeldía y Estado en Colombia. is to hard to read but necessary, some people say that the author takes a position but still is good to read thoughts of foreign scholars on the national reality.
